The Homosaurus vocabulary defines temperature play as sensual or sexual play in which objects and substances stimulate the body with heat or cold. Its narrower terms include ice play and wax play. In practice, the category also covers warm or cool air, water, skin contact, and a deliberate sequence of contrasting sensations.
Temperature may be a background mood, one strand of touch, or the main event. Someone might want body warmth and a slow pace, the first cool touch of metal, a wet breeze across skin, or the suspense of not knowing whether the next contact will be warm or cold. None of those preferences implies an interest in pain.

Contact methods put a material or substance against the skin. A warm hand, body-warmed fabric, water, a room-temperature glass object, a cooled metal tool, and wax all deliver temperature alongside texture, weight, and pressure. A small point, a broad flat surface, and flowing water can feel different even when their measured temperature is similar.
Ambient methods change the air around the body or move air across the skin. Breath, a fan, an open window, and a warmer or cooler room create less localised effects than an object. Wet skin adds evaporation, so moving air may feel much cooler there than on dry skin. Anticipation can sit around the physical feeling. A person may close their eyes and wait to identify the next contact. For some people the route matters more than hot versus cold. They may prefer skin contact over equipment, air over liquids, one sustained temperature over switching, or the visual ritual of wax over the heat itself. Those distinctions are more useful than treating temperature play as one intensity ladder.
